The Event
The relay "da San Marco a San Marco" was born from an idea of the Association Veneto Nostro - Raixe Venete, in collaboration with the Region of Veneto.
This is an event unique, cultural and obviously not political, organized with the desire and the passion which have always being moving our Association: spreading and enhancing the Venet culture, language and historical memory. A People great in history and now, finally, returning conscious of their identity.
The initiative "Marcia da San Marco a San Marco" is among the regional celebrations for the Veneto People Day. In 2007, in fact, the Veneto Regional Council has approved a bill (8/2007) that gives official recognition to the Venetian as a genuine language [ www.linguaveneta.it ], and establishes on March 25th the Veneto People Day.
For 6 days more than 100 volunteers will take turns -running or walking - leading the Venetian Flag from Piazza San Marco in Torri del Benaco on Lake Garda (Pai di Sopra fraction) to Piazza San Marco in Venice, covering the Veneto Region end-to-end.
After the relay, the "baton" Flag of the march will be delivered to the Patriarch of Venice, together with the many gifts offered along the path from the different municipalities.
So the relay "da San Marco a San Marco" will even this year be an important initiative that will further contribute the Venets to discover the great values which are still alive among our People. So they may increasingly be glad to join again and make a team to build, as it was for their glorious history, a new great future.

Why "From San Marco to San Marco"?
"From San Marco to San Marco" because we wanted a refer to the beloved Venetian Patron, symbol of a thousand years of glory with the Serenissima Republic, even in the name. Everyone of us, at least once in their life has been to Venice - the "Venetians' city" -, especially in Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square). Few of us realize, however, that in the extreme west of our region there is a small village on the shores of Lake Garda presenting a square dedicated to our Patron, too. This fact allows us to create an imaginary line that crosses longitudinally throughout our region linking all the Veneto People, from the lake to the sea.
Why a relay race?
The relay is a living example of solidarity and sense of community is created among the participants. Making each one is a single path, they exchange a baton that ideally links them together: for this Event the baton will be the historic Venetian flag of St. Mark, which will pass from hand to hand.
